Clearfield Commuter Rail Station
Landmark Design was hired by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) to develop a conceptual plan for a 68-acre UTA-owned FrontRunner station property located in Clearfield, Utah. Working in close cooperation with a Steering Committee composed of the Clearfield City mayor, city council, planning commission, staff and UTA representatives, a series of workshops and visioning sessions were conducted to determine planning issues, to review ideas and plan alternatives, and to settle on a preferred plan for the site. A tight schedule was followed, resulting in a dynamic and highly-interactive planning process.
The Preferred Plan represents the consensus vision for the property. The plan incorporates an Entertainment Center/Mixed Use development profile along either side of a central spine road, Corporate Headquarter sites located beyond these uses, and “Flex Space” together with residential uses providing transitions to nearby residences. The project attempts to balance the need for surface parking and the desire for a tight, urban form. Large open spaces and pedestrian amenities are also provided, including a "Center Green", wide sidewalks and green "shortcut" corridors. The final concept incorporates an efficient and exciting road system, accommodating both destination and pass-through traffic through the use of roundabout intersections. The plan envisions generous and well-designed streetscapes to help define the space and to encourage pedestrian-friendly activities.
The Final Plan was presented to a joint session of the Clearfield City Council and Planning Commission in February 2007, at which time it was adopted by both bodies.
