Episcopal Diocese Headquarters and Plaza

Picture
Landmark Design worked closely with the architects and owner to develop a compact urban plaza. The design was developed from the conceptual design stage through the preparation of construction documents, blending regionally-appropriate and sustainable landscape design practices  with the needs of an iconic ecclesiastical institution. The design provides multiple access points into the site, using sidewalks, ramps and stairways to encourage contact with the surrounding streets and urban environment. Landmark Design was responsible for schematic design of  two water features (implemented by others), landscaping, irrigation system, paving and hardscape treatments, site furnishings and other elements.

A key feature of the project is the labyrinth courtyard, a striking yet restive feature that symbolizes the desire of the Diocesan Center to bridge the needs of the general public, church members, staff and administration. The overall result is a semi-public plaza and landscape that provides functional and visual linkages between the Diocese Center, the neighboring Episcopal Cathedral Center site and the urban street setting that surrounds it.
