_ Landmark Design provided complete landscape architectural design services for the Highland Rug Gallery in Salt Lake City. Located on the emerging Highland Drive “furniture row” in the south Sugar house neighborhood, the client desired a landscape treatment that reflected the artistic nature of the his rug dealership.

The final design establishes a “green fountain” of decorative grasses and blue-toned groundcovers, which cascades over terraced corten planting beds and sandstone weirs along the sloping outer edge of the site. The design utilizes similar sandstone cubes as informal seating bollards near the building entrance, creating a playful barrier between the entrance and adjacent parking lot driveway. Large stone planters placed between large display windows complete the treatment along the Highland Drive, providing splashes of annual color along an otherwise harsh street frontage.
