Landmark Design has been hired by Salt Lake City to lead planning and design efforts toward the creation of a one-acre community park at 1560 East Atkin Avenue (2840 South). Known as Imperial Park, the site was formerly the home of a church, which is no longer in operation. The buildings have since been abandoned, razed, and the land donated to Salt Lake City for use as a park. The local neighborhood has been integrally involved in the development of design ideas and visions for the park, which were formalized in a report and presented to the City.
The current design process is intended to build upon the previous efforts of the community, including opportunities for input and review by neighborhood residents, who would like to remain involved in the design process. The design team role is to interpret and refine the ideas and vision developed to date (utilizing a significant public input process), creating a Park Master Plan that aligns community ideas with broader community needs and identified budgets.
One of our key tasks is to help SLC and the neighborhood visualize alternative concepts and ideas, reaching agreement on a preferred design direction. The public input process will also include presentations to the Sugarhouse Community Council, which will provide input and direction at two key stages. Once the preferred design has been finalized and construction documents completed, Landmark Design will assist Salt Lake City with the selection of a contractor. Our services will continue through implementation, during which time we will provide regular Construction Administration services.
There were three public meetings regarding the process of the Imperial Park project. A preferred design alternative was presented at an open house meeting held on Thursday, March 6th 2014 at the Forest Dale Golf Course Clubhouse.
