Memory Grove Concept Plan
|
_Landmark Design prepared the
Memory Grove Concept Plan in early 1999. The plan was commissioned in
response to the devastation caused by a powerful tornado and years of
neglect. The Memory Grove Concept Plan provided a conceptual framework
for guiding changes and improvements in light of development and
budgetary priorities. That process identified the most compelling needs
in the park, including stabilization of the hillsides,
revegetation, linkages between monuments and surrounding neighborhoods,
new trees and landscape plantings to replace those damaged by the
tornado, and which have deteriorated and aged over the years.
The Memory Grove Concept Plan represented the first step for upgrading the park environment, responding to the goals and desires established by a Steering Committee, and the realities of re-building the park. The plan provided a holistic approach for organizing the many steps that has re-established Memory Grove as a place of grandeur and a source of civic pride. |
