Landmark Design headed a team of recreation specialists, planners, and economists who developed and evaluated the feasibility of various recreation development alternatives at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Oversight was provided by a Management Committee representing Daggett and Uintah Counties in Utah; Sweetwater County, Wyoming; various recreation concessionaires in the area including lodging, rafting, fly fishing interests; local and regional travel boards; regional ranching interests; Economic and Development agencies in the two states; and the Town of Manila, Utah and Forest Service personnel. The planning process involved three public scoping meetings in Salt Lake City, Manila, and Vernal, Utah; two public alternatives meetings in Rock Springs, Wyoming and Manila, Utah, and presentation of the final plan at a public meeting in Manila, Utah. User surveys were conducted and recreation trends and demand analyzed.Landmark Design was the prime contractor on this 18 month study, and was responsible for project management, land use planning, recreation planning, cost estimateing, and preparation of the final plan document. The plan resulted in several development alternatives including implementation strategies and costs; tourism marketing opportunities; and assignment of responsibility for implementation.
