Landmark Design headed a multi-disciplinary in the development of
a master plan for improvements to Salt Lake City's major public park. The
intent of the project was to identify improvements to the park, determine
a budget and potential funding sources, and to work closely with City staff
and neighborhood groups in development of an overall improvements plan. The
results of the effort included a list of improvements totaling over 17 million
dollars. Landmark Design was the Project Manager and Principal Planner with
specific responsibility for site design and landscape design.
Once the master plan was completed, Landmark Design prepared construction documents for Phase One improvements which included new playground equipment and play areas; sidewalks, plazas, and picnic areas; a new basketball court; a jogging path; restoration of existing monuments such as fireplaces, seating areas, arbors, and commemorative and historic monuments; and landscape improvements including a new automatic sprinkler irrigation system.
Landmark Design also provided project management services for the total Phase One project, which included demolition of existing restrooms and other structures; construction of two new restrooms, and remodel of two additional restrooms; new lighting along Constitution Drive, major walkways, and other areas of the park; new parking lots and access drives, and upgraded utility improvements. As Project Manager, Landmark Design was responsible for coordinating the drawing and specification package for the four consulting firms, conducting team meetings, and budget analysis.
The Phase One improvements were funded at 2.5 million dollars, and the project was completed in 2000. Landmark Design also provided public involvement services and landscape design services for the second phase of improvements which focused on the reconstruction of the main loop road in the park. This phase was completed in early 2003.
