Landmark Design, in conjunction with Brixen and Christopher Architects and Wikstrom Economic Planning Consultants, finalized a detailed master plan for the new Taylorsville City Center. The 20-acre site will house a new city hall, a fire station and a wide range of mixed-use buildings.
Alternative concepts were developed during the planning process, each based on specific urban design, economic, site and architectural goals. The preferred plan is a variation of the preliminary plan illustrated to the right, which promotes a pedestrian-friendly environment through the formation of an internal street system, sidewalks and a good mix of pedestrian zones, open space, parking and site amenities. The mixed-use profile of the site accommodates a wide range of smaller businesses and housing types, enhancing the economic draw and encouraging a 'day and night' activity profile. The final package includes detailed architectural and site design guidelines.
The planning process encompassed an extensive public input process, including review by a 20-person steering committee. This plan was adopted by the Taylorsville City Council in late 1999.
