Sego Lily School
_Landmark Design was selected to
the design team headed by Gorilla Design for the new Sego Lily School, a
private K-12 facility located in Murray, Utah. The school is situated
on a site of approximately 1.5 acres. Landmark Design was responsible
for designing the outdoor landscape and play areas as well as an
interior courtyard.
The design process began with a mini-charette involving the students and staff of the school, and other consultants. Landmark Design continued to work closely with these parties throughout the design process. The insight and direction gathered during the charette process led to the development of two conceptual designs for the site. Following approval of a refined concept plan Landmark Design proceeded with the development and completion of construction documents
The landscape plan for the Sego Lily School is very responsive to the unique site constraints, school philosophy, and vision of the students. Landmark Design considered all input and comments from the students and synthesized these into an approach applicable to the tangible world and realities of the project. The play areas designed for the school were specially crafted to provide a variety of open ended play and learning opportunities. This included the implementation of edible plant life throughout the site including an orchard, traditional garden, and edible landscape plants. The plants for the project were also carefully selected for their water conserving characteristics.
This project was made especially successful by open communication with the groups involved and a willingness to explore all possible ideas.
