Salt Lake City Critical Open Lands Inventory and
Preservation Priority Assessment
Landmark Design completed work with Salt Lake City to analyze critical land characteristics for over 27,000 acres of land zoned for open space, foothill preservation, or agricultural use. Landmark Design developed a matrix which includes specific parcel data for each property, including ownership, land use, zoning; geologic, environmental, and physical characteristics; proximity to developed services and roads; wetlands and wildlife habitat; and others. Information was derived from Geographic Information System (GIS) data sources, and is tied directly to GIS mapping by parcel number. The Assessment prioritized data characteristics, categorized types of critical open lands to guide the City in making management, preservation, policy, and ordinance recommendations that support the City’s sustainable development goals.
