Salt Lake Community College Site and Facilities Master Plan Update
Landmark
Design worked with a multidisciplinary team to complete a 20-year College Site and
Facilities Master Plan for Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), addressing the
five sites which are owned by the SLCC system which total over 270 acres. The intent of the Plan was to organize SLCC
growth and development to meet future demands and needs while recognizing the
history, vision, mission, values, and academic plan of the institution.
The specific role of Landmark Design was to develop the Landscape Element. The Landscape Element outlines the means through which each campus will become an exemplary outdoor place, incorporating regionally appropriate and environmentally responsible design approaches that go beyond water and maintenance cost savings. Implementation of the Landscape Element will bolster the excellent standing of the college by demonstrating institutional commitment to sustainable, environmentally-appropriate landscape uses and practices.
The Salt Lake Community College Master Plan Update Landscape Element envisions the SLCC outdoor settings as places of learning, investigation, demonstration, and environmental stewardship. The Landscape Element views the five SLCC-owned campuses in a comprehensive and integrated manner, supporting the creation of individual campuses that are forward-looking, energy-aware and which facilitate the overall teaching mission of the SLCC system and the individual campuses. More specifically, the Salt Lake Community College Master Plan Update Landscape Element outlines ways in which the campus landscapes can become more integrated with their natural and manmade settings.
The end result will be a system of college-owned campuses and facilities that are sustainable and regionally-appropriate.
