Landmark Design completed the original Big Cottonwood Regional Park Master Plan in 2011. The plan was commissioned in
response to conflicting public ideas concerning the preservation, management, and use of the four individual park sites that compose the Big Cottonwood Park system, and provided a framework for guiding the preservation of open space and improvement of formal park uses over a long-term implementation and funding period. Landmark Design was recently hired to update the plan to reflect current needs and desires for the park, with updated concepts regarding multimodal transportation linkages, open space preservation, and enhanced natural areas. Landmark conducted outreach events at the parks and a community survey to understand the current community vision for the space. The plan is now in its final stage and will establish a new vision for the park, including clear guidelines for contentious recreational uses including horse riding, disc golf, and off-leash dog walking. Improving connectivity between the four park units will be a key focus of the plan as well, with the intention to unify the site as one. The final plan is anticipated for completion in 2024. |
