After the decommissioning of an old elementary school, South Ogden City acquired a 3.5-acre site, providing the perfect opportunity to make an important expansion of the adjacent 8-acre Club Heights Park, with a focus on meeting the recreation needs of the surrounding neighborhood.
Landmark Design was hired to design and prepare construction documents for the 3.5-acre park addition. Situated on a terrace above the existing park, the flat site provides a range of small-scale park amenities to improve access by the residents of the adjacent neighborhoods. The project supported the desires expressed in a community survey that indicated strong support for enhancing and expanding existing parks throughout the city. The design reflects a series of interlinked circles, each demarcating a specific site feature or amenity, including a small entry plaza, small playgrounds for multiple age groups, a nature play area, an interactive water feature, an open lawn area for free play, and picnic shelters and site furnishings. The entry includes a small parking lot and entry plaza, where access to hillside trail links this intimate park setting with the more active sports fi elds and a dog park at the base of the steep slope. Landmark provided park master planning construction on documents, bidding and construction on administration on services. The $1.6 million project was completed in the fall of 2021 and was officially opened to the public the following spring. |
