DRAPER PARKS, RECREATION, & TRAILS MASTER PLAN (2023)
The City of Draper hired Landmark Design to update the 2008 Parks, Recreation, and Trails Master Plan, which was also completed by Landmark Design. Landmark Design worked closely with city staff, a steering committee, and the Parks and Trails Committee on the development of the plan. Community input informed the direction of the plan, with opportunities that included a statistically valid community survey, a public scoping open house, a project website with an interactive online mapping tool and other comment formats, and numerous focus group interviews.
The plan is based on detailed analyses of the city’s existing parks and recreation resources and evaluates needs through build out in 2050 to help city leaders and staff continue to meet community expectations while using financial resources efficiently. Draper’s population is expected to increase by approximately 40,000 residents by 2050, with a potential 15,000 additional residents beyond that in The Point, a master planned community on the east side of the city being developed by the state on the former site of the Utah State Prison. The plan includes recommended park acreage, amenities, and trail connections for The Point, which are based on the city’s levels of service and standards, to ensure that new residents in the master planned community have access to appropriate levels of park and recreation amenities without placing an undue burden on Draper City.
The plan includes priorities, recommendations, detailed costs, and an action plan that summarizes the goals, policies, and implementation measures to achieve the plan vision over time. The plan was adopted in October 2023.
