MURRAY STATION AREA PLAN + DESIGN GUIDELINES

The Murray Central Station is a place of connections and linkages, where people arrive and depart on their way to destinations near and far. Located in the geographic heart of the Salt Lake Valley, this area is undergoing major transformation as part of a thriving city center and a regional service center. The Murray Central Station Area Plan clarifies Murray’s brand and its growing position as a regional player. More specifically, it provides direction through specific
assessments and initiatives, including:

• Assessing the study area’s built environment, current development patterns and socioeconomics.
• Assessing the market potential of the station area and the synergies of commercial and multi-family residential uses
• Understanding the connections and access to and from the station area for vehicles, transit and active transportation modes.

​​Lessons Learned: Don’t get ahead of the underlying site conditions as you strive for establishing a truly great station. The Murray site has significant site development conditions, highlighted by EPA-designated brownfields that prohibit the inclusion of residential uses in proximity to the station. Once this condition was clearly documented and the implications understood, expectations were adjusted and a unique station design created in response to those critical findings.
