Imperial Park is the first new park to be constructed in Salt Lake City in more than 30 years. The small one-acre park is located in the Highland Park neighborhood on the site of a former church that was razed and the land donated to the neighborhood for a park. The local neighborhood was integrally involved in the development of this park, and had developed design ideas and visions for the park over several years. One of the key tasks performed by Landmark Design was to help the neighborhood visualize alternative concepts and ideas for the site, and to focus on a preferred design that best met the needs of the neighborhood and the city as a whole. An intensive public input process was utilized to achieve this, including a public scoping meeting to determine priorities and preferences, hands-on workshops to develop preliminary design concepts, and an open house meeting to review and receive input on the preferred park design.
