SHAY PARK - SARATOGA SPRINGS

Landmark Design led a multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers, interpretive writer, and graphic designer in the development of design and construction documents for Shay Park, a 10-acre community park located at the north end of Saratoga Springs. The park features an abandoned historic elevated railroad grade, which was the focal point of the design. In earlier years, the railroad accommodated Railroad Engines which provided transport for the Tintic mining district and local agriculture. The name Shay Park is based on the Shay engines that were often used in the mountain mine districts. Landmark Design led a multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers, an interpretive writer, and a graphic designer in the development of design and construction documents for Shay Park, a 10-acre community park located at the north end of Saratoga Springs. 

The park features an abandoned historic elevated railroad grade, which was the focal point of the design. In earlier years, the railroad accommodated Railroad Engines which provided transport for the Tintic mining district and local agriculture. The name Shay Park was based on the Shay engines that were often used in the mountain mine districts. 
The park design converted the rail grade into an elevated “rail trail,” complete with a trestle bridge, which affords park visitors spectacular views of Utah Lake to the south, and the Wasatch mountain range to the east. The park design includes multi-purpose sports fields, a large pavilion and plaza, a playground, a perimeter trail system connected to the elevated rail trail, interpretive signage, and a hobby rail line that is used by the local rail hobbyists. The park was completed in October 2016.
